I suppose it makes sense to have lite app (with unlockable content via IAP) and full paid app. I'm saying this basing on own experience of selling apps on the AppStore. If interested you may want to look at my post in our company blog about IAP vs paid app.

http://bees4honey.com/blog/marketing/in-app-pur...

In two words - having lite version with IAP and paid version will increase a total revenue in comparison with having only lite with IAP or lite+paid.

I would have to disagree, considering that Apple has now moved on with iAd. What his talk does not take into account, is the ratio of total users of free apps versus paid apps. This blog here, http://www.curly-brace.com/iphone.html states that it is about 1000:1 for free vs 99 cents downloads.

My experience also tells me that advertising is a good idea, because 'hot potato original' is not a game that anyone (including me, and the commenters on itunes) would ever pay for. But since I launched it on April 8th 2010 - it has made over 200 dollars.

While it's not that 100/day idea - an app I made to help me learn iphone development is making enough money to pay off the investment costs of the macbook and subscription.

More food for thought.

-S!

All the more reason why not to make an app solely focused on purchase price or advertising to make money.
